Room Rescue: A funky Fulham redesign October 26, 2009
Posted by kellyhoppen in : 3D room design, mydeco guest blogger | add a commentHi I’m Kelly Hoppen and welcome to week three of the Room Rescue Campaign!
Each week Telegraph readers put forward a room in their house for a 3D makeover by mydeco.com users. I then take the opportunity to assess their favourite design.
This week’s Room Rescue is Emma North’s spare bedroom in Fulham. She has not looked at it since moving in several months ago. “I want friends to fight over staying with me,” she says.

Emma selected a design by mydeco.com user Chloe Macintosh.

This is a very different and inviting design. I especially love the use of the tall shutters, they make the room.
Think you can do better? Put your design skills to the test and redesign next week’s room. Or to enter a room in your house for a redesign, email a high resolution photograph to roomrescue@mydeco.com.

Posted by eleanorjoslin in : Ellie's blog | add a commentHigh street pizza place Zizzi’s are planning to redesign 101 of their restaurants across the UK. To achieve this they’ve commissioned the exciting young talent of winning artists from this year’s New Designers Show 2009. Emerging illustrators Lizzie Cullen and Matthew Brooks both won awards at the esteemed graduate designers show and now have the challenge of redesigning two Zizzi branches each.

Lizzie will undertake the Marlow and Brighton restaurants and Matthew will embark upon the Notting Hill Gate and Paddington Street branches. Zizzi’s Head of Design, Pia Fairhurst, wants the new restaurant interiors to feature the history and character of their local areas to ‘differentiate Zizzi from any other casual dining restaurant chain’. Planning to feature Moooi’s horse lamp, antique typewriters and old newspaper copies as wallpaper will certainly do that!

Lizzie Cullen won the New Designer’s One Year On Award for her multi–media psycho–geographical ink and digitally rendered illustrated maps. mydeco had exclusive coverage of the event back in July and she told us about her hopes for the future: ‘I’m working for a World War Two Aerospace magazine so I work in the morning and illustrate in the evening. It can be a bit solitary staying in my room drawing. I’d like to work part time so I can invest time in my pictures – I love it!’ Looks like her wish has come true. She’s also collaborating with photographer Moose Azim in Brighton which makes a change from her usual ‘two days of straight drawing on my own’ – and with pizza on hand it can’t be a bad place to work in!

Matthew’s visually attractive and tactile ‘Electric Bird’ tile won him the accolade of runner up for the Business Design Centre New Designer of the Year Award in Part Two of the show. Our coverage of the New Designers Show Part One and Part Two can be viewed at mydeco TV and read more about the event and other winners with our Editor’s Picks.
If you now have a craving for pizza like we do, make the slicing a lot easier with Jamie Oliver’s new pizza slicer with protective guard (£7.99 from Amazon). Go on, make it a large one.
