The Bollinger is chilled, the low calorie canapés are prepared and moody-faced celebs sit poised as gazelle like beauties strut down the catwalk. Yes, you’ve guessed it, London Fashion Week has officially begun.
In honour of the stylish week that lies before us, the Debenhams flagship store on Oxford Street has been adding the final touches to its show-stopping window display ‘Celebrating 25 Years of British Fashion.’

In recognition of its in-house designers, such as Henry Holland and Jasper Conran, the leading department store has created three fashion-fabulous window displays to bring the excitement of the catwalk to the 5 million visitors who shop on Oxford Street each week.
The three displays give us lowly laymen a glimpse into the glamorous world of high fashion-revealing manic chaos backstage, celeb tension on the front row and the hedonistic glamour of a VIP after party. What a world of leggy models, oversized shades, skyscraping stilettos and empty champagne glasses!

If peering into the Debenhams window display is as close to the catwalk as you think you can get, then fear not my good friends. Just remember that fashion’s biggest names have turned their hands to homeware too. For some top tips from our savvy editorial team, I strongly recommend that you check out our latest article on Fashion designers’ newest homeware collections.
So keep your chins up and bring some chic catwalk style into your living room!
Spending the night in Ben de Lisi’s apartment 10 September, 2009

Last night I was invited to snoop around the plush, Mayfair apartment that Ben de Lisi has re-modelled for Grosvenor estates.
Located just off Park Lane, the three-bedroom, 1,900 sq ft apartment has Ben de Lisi designed bathrooms and his own paintings and ceramics, as well other high-end pieces selected by the man himself. The swanky, champagne-filled launch party was last night, and I was more than happy to be amongst the throng.

Clutching my glass of welcome bubbly I head straight into a smart open plan kitchen. And am a little disappointed. The kitchen is immaculately finished and overlooks a cute private terrace, but the Ben de Lisi touch isn’t immediately apparent.
Sure, there are Tom Dixon pendant lights cutting an elegant silhouette over the table, and some striking ceramics in the acid brights that have characterised de Lisi’s Autumn/Winter collection. But for all the hype, I’d hoped for something more distinctive.
Heading to the living room, my hopes are realised. Glass tulip-shaped lights intertwine seductively on the walls, a Ben de Lisi designed, sleek, glass fireplace flickers quietly and a huge, retro, red leather pouffe invites me to lounge. Best of all is the back wall, which boasts a red and cream tree embroidered onto a chocolate brown backdrop. This is much more like it.
Down the open staircase, past the impressive stone feature wall (also de Lisi’s own design) are three bedrooms with gorgeous en-suite bathrooms – the largest a marvel in grey marble.
Of the three bedrooms, the master (above) is most definitely where de Lisi’s styling comes into its own. A second embroidered statement wall is the centrepiece of a boudoir that is all soft lights, squishy cushions and soothing hues. A hanging wicker egg chair dangles invitingly in one corner and french doors lead onto a private terrace with floor to sky mirrors. Bliss.

The two smaller bedrooms are less striking, although there are some funky cushions and plenty of interesting ceramics. But with the piles of stuff I hoard, I’m not sure that the storage space would quite cut it!
My tour over, I head to the huge shared garden at the rear of the apartment to share my verdict with the other guests as the evening draws in.
And what is my verdict? The apartment is perfect for those who are short of time and fat of wallet. Every room balances high-end with homely, and those where de Lisi’s influence is clear are gorgeous. But I can’t help thinking: with de Lisi’s new homeware collection now in Debenhams, who needs the man himself to recreate the look?

Love it or hate it, the iconic brand Marmite is hijacking the home shops next season.
As new Autumn/Winter collections filter onto the shelves this week, it’s impossible to ignore the widespread recognizable iconography of Marmite.

“People want it in other parts of their lives beyond just on their bread,” Noam Buchaltr, Marmite’s marketing manager, told me yesterday.
Get baking – and nostalgic – with these three cute Marmite cake tins (£29.99) from notonthehighstreet.com.

Forward thinking stores, including Heal’s, Fenwicks, John Lewis and Debenhams, are going mad for Marmite – keep your eyes peeled as Marmite teapots, trays and kitchen collection hit the high street in the next few weeks. That’ll be my mate, Marmite.
And have a good cup of tea in a Marmite mug (£7.99) from On the table.

Hottest Autumn/ Winter design collaborations 17 August, 2009

Will Neisha Crosland, James Irvine and Sebastian Conran be household names when the summer’s over?
Silly season it may be with stupid stories making the headlines but this August is brimming with hot news in the design world.
Like the imminent sartorial marriage of H&M and Jimmy Choo, home ware shops John Lewis, Debenhams and Muji are looking to serious designers to pull in sales this September.

Who would have thought it? John Lewis has partnered with super cool designers including Neisha Crosland, Sebastian Conran, Nick Munro and Matthew Hilton – some are in store now, others will be from September.
Below is Sebastian Conran’s kitchen collection for John Lewis.

It is quite a PR coup to have bagged Crosland; her hotly anticipated collection of wallpaper, fabrics and bedlinen (inspired by Elizabethan and Jacobean England and oriental Shanghai deco) is her first entry onto the high street.
Down the road, MUJI, the Japanese lifestyle chain has teamed up with iconic German company Thonet led by British designer James Irvine and German furniture manufacturer Konstantin Grcic. The result? MUJI manufactured by Thonet is an affordable collection of simplified, stylised Thonet designs made of bentwood and tubular steel including Irvine’s Bentwood chair (£215) and a beech table/ desk (from £325) designed exclusively for MUJI.
This Autumn/ Winter, Designers at Debenhams have partnered up with (another) fashion legend; Ben de Lisi – look out for his cheeky bulldog cushions – and watch this space for an interview with the dress designer.
